The economy is transformed not only by new regulations, but above all by the needs of customers and the requirements of global financial institutions. New regulation governing how to construct buildings, manufacture and transport goods does not have to be merely an expense. For many businesses, it affords an opportunity to provide new technologies, products and services. This debate will consider what the new normal means for businesses and the economies of the region, and how best to use this opportunity.

Enormous industrial, energy, technological, transport and human potential. The Polish-Ukrainian partnership has great potential not only in political and military terms, but above all with respect to the economy. We need to start thinking now about how to take advantage of the sense of community which has been built up in recent years, how to develop cooperation, how to understand and respect mutual interests and avoid conflicts and what role Poland and Polish financial institutions should play in the economic recovery of Ukraine.

🕛 12:00 – 13:00

Panel discussion: Energy revolutions and counter-revolutions: What are the long-term effects of the energy crisis?

Coal mines and coal-fired power plants are reopening while the development of RES capacity is expanding. The short-term effects of the energy crisis are surprising and multifaceted. The longer-term effects are even more difficult to grasp. However, there is no escaping the need to systematise the new normal because it underlies investment decisions and strategies. This debate will look at the future of conventional energy sources, the prospects for RES development, and how the infrastructure must adapt to them. We will try to identify the most interesting technologies to keep an eye on. We will also consider what the new normal in the energy industry means for local communities and businesses. Should we change the way we use power to meet the needs of residents and businesses and, if so, how? And what should businesses do in the new normal to remain competitive?

Moderator: Marek Tejchman, deputy editor in chief of Dziennik Gazeta Prawna

Speakers:

  • Ana Birchall, Special Envoy for Strategic and International Affairs, Nuclearelectrica
  • Mark Loughran, President Central and Eastern Europe at Honeywell

19 January 2023

🕚 11:00 – 12:00

Panel discussion: How to live, invest and earn in a world where money costs money again

Interest rate hikes imposed in response to the sweeping wave of inflation have come as a shock to many businesses and consumers. The end of super-cheap money has changed the way we look at investing and saving. It has changed the situation of many companies, which are finding it much harder to raise money for ambitious projects. The change has also been felt by public authorities.
What is the future of money and credit? Does 2022 mark the end of a decade of experimentation, and will we go back to business as usual? Or are we witnessing a kind of “new new normal”? If so, what does that mean for the region’s investment-thirsty economies?

Moderator: Marek Tejchman, deputy editor in chief of Dziennik Gazeta Prawna

  • Jarosław Fuchs, Vice-President of the Management Board Banku Pekao S.A.
  • Adam Niewinski, Co-Founder & General Partner, OTB Ventures
